Northern Ariadne.

“I love you,” he said;

“Nothing shall change me.”

O on the wild sea-shore,

Character her name in the sand.

And so to the violent

Last of winter. Ice and snow

Cold hug the land.

They walk the shore,

Hand holding hand:

He speaks: “I must go away.”

Close my the waves roar

In the final dimness of day.

Oh on the wild sea-shore

Character his name in sand.

Cynic's Version.

He said, “I love you:

Nothing shall change me”:

And it did.
